Nutritional yeast is probably the most life-changing supplement I have ever had during my journey towards a healthier life, the benefits change my life. I will share my experience here.

Nutritional yeast is a yellow, dry, easy-to-use flakes that can be sprinkled on any food you want or just take it as it is. It is affordable and easy to get from any health store nearby. It has authentic cheese flavor so it can be a good substitute for vegan.

Nutritional Yeast Benefits

People usually use it on wraps, salad dressings, burgers, in hummus, on food before baking, or just sprinkle it on soup.

I want to share with you the benefits not just the delicious taste. So not only it is great additional flavorings for your food, but also a very healthy supplement for all people.

If you want to be healthier, you need to consume a diet rich in nutrients, especially from whole food sources.

What is Nutritional Yeast?

Nutritional yeast is a type of inactive yeast, unlike baker’s yeast used for baking, or brewer’s yeast for beer making.

Baker’s yeast is used to make bread, it is alive and the yeast is killed during the baking process.

Instant yeast

Brewer’s yeast is used to brew beer and it is alive.

Brewer's yeast

The yeast in nutritional yeast is inactive, you need not worry about it. It can be used to enrich food flavor because of its nutty, cheesy taste.

Note on Nutritional Yeast

  • Nutritional Yeast is not yeast.

Some people think that if you consume nutritional yeast, you are going to end up with yeast infection. It is totally wrong! Nutritional yeast is not an active yeast. Some people are allergic to yeast, like the yeast they use in baking bread, but nutritional yeast is a different kind of yeast, it is non-active.

  • Nutritional Yeast is not MSG

Because of the taste, some people think that nutritional yeast is another form of MSG(monosodium glutamate). It is not MSG.

Why Do We Need To Consume Nutritional Yeast?

You may think that you are healthy, you have no health issues, you have no vitamin deficiency. That’s what I thought, but I had a stubborn weight that cannot go off, I had headaches, I had fatigue and many other annoying symptoms.

Nutritional Yeast is mostly loaded with vitamin B.

If you get your blood tested, vitamin B deficiency will not show up on the test. The problem lies in the enzyme that makes vitamin B works in the body, transketolase.

Transketolase works together with 5 different enzymes, but it is the main enzyme. So, if transketolase does not function well, the other 5 enzymes cannot work, either.

Vitamin B deficiency is the primary cause of a disease called Beriberi, the great imitator of various diseases.

Chances of having a vitamin B deficiency would be people with:

  • Prediabetic
  • Diabetic
  • Insulin resistance
  • Drink alcohol regularly
  • Consume a lot of refined carbohydrates and sugar

Symptoms of vitamin B deficiency:

  • Fatigue
  • Enlarged heart
  • Increased heart rate
  • Edema, indentation at the lower ankle when you press it.
Edema
  • Difficulty breathing, shortness of breath
  • Tingling, numbness, burning, pain on your fingertips or the bottom of your feet
  • Full sensation in the stomach
  • Constipation
  • GERD/Acid reflux
  • Vertigo
  • Excessive sweating/no Sweating
  • Anxiety/excessive thinking
  • Brain fog
  • Insomnia
  • Dizzy when standing up after sitting
  • Sleep apnea
  • Panic attacks
  • Nightmares
  • Lack of stamina
  • Restless leg syndrome because of lactic acid build-up
  • Too much estrogen in the liver
  • Easily irritated, low tolerance of stress

What Caused Vitamin B deficiency?

  • Sugar consumption
  • Refined carbohydrates
  • Consumption of alcohol
  • The older we get, the lower vitamin B is depleted
  • Diabetes
  • Gastric bypass
  • Liver damage/fatty liver
  • Caffeine
  • Not enough stomach acid
  • Vaccinations can trigger vitamin B depletion

Other foods that have a lot of vitamin B, especially B1: liver, pork, eggs, fish, sunflower seeds, rice hulls, squash, asparagus, seafood.
