If you just start out your blogging journey, you know you need a keyword research tool badly and you need to choose wisely according to your budget. You may have heard of Ahrefs, but it costs a lot for a new blogger. KeySearch is a good alternative to Ahrefs.

As a new blogger, you will try to be very cautious with your expenses and investment. But to start a new venture, you need to spend some money first. You will try to be as wise as possible by reading reviews, checking on the free trial, etc.

There are many free versions of keyword research tool out there, but we need to find one that can really help us on our journey, to be more on track to our goal. There are tons of things to do research on, keyword research, backlink analysis, competitor analysis, rank tracking, etc. You will need a quite sophisticated tool to help you with all those things.

Ahrefs is one of the best keyword research tools available. It has so many features that can help you find the right keywords for your blog. You can do backlink analysis, competitor analysis, and even get keyword rank tracking.

It’s not suitable for me as a new blogger. I have tried the $7 free trial. It was great. But not in the beginning of my journey as a blogger. Maybe later when I already make enough money. I can always get back to Ahrefs.

For me, Ahrefs is too pricey. I can’t afford it yet. Since I don’t use it every day, I don’t want to invest in Ahrefs yet. Maybe later, after my blog starts to make money.

I need to focus on writing good content and build my audience list.

If you’re just starting out as a new blogger like me, you will need keyword research tool only for a while. Build your content list and schedule it for the next 2 or 3 months. Bring traffic to your blog and get back to it again.

Ahrefs costs $99 per month. If you’re looking for an alternative to Ahrefs, you might want to consider KeySearch. It is almost as good as Ahrefs and more affordable for me. Here is Ahrefs Pricing Plan, if you would like to check. It costs more than KeySearch.

Ahrefs Pricing Plan

I know there are other SEO tools out there. But I tried KeySearch and I like it.

It can help you finding keywords with big search volume and easy to rank. It can also check on your competitors’ top pages and backlinks.

And plus it keeps adding new features to the product. It is very affordable for new bloggers who just start out.

Keysearch pricing plan starts as low as $17 per month. That will give you 200 daily search and analysis credits. Get 20% discount using this coupon KSDISC. It is even cheaper then.

When you try and do the keyword research even using the free trial account, the result is still the same. It’s just that you can only do up to 5 keyword research for a day and continue the next day. It shouldn’t be enough.

Here I will show you a quick guide on how to use KeySearch features. You can use the free trial or just sign up with discount code here.

Here I will show you some features I have used personally for my blogs. Just a few guide for you to start using KeySearch.

Type in the keyword you want to research and set the locations. Next to the locations button you can choose Competitors Keyword or Related Keywords and then hit Search.

Keyword research tool - Keysearch review

You can see the difficulty of the keyword under the search box. I typed in ‘SEO tools’ and you can see that it is a fairly difficult keyword to compete.

In Search Trends, you can see the popularity of the keyword over a period of time.

The box at the right side shows keyword suggestions related to your targeted keyword. You can find long tail keywords to help you rank on Google.

You can browse through the long tail keywords and check the difficulty score. Compare the volume of the keyword and the difficulty score to see if it’s worth targeting or not.

Play around with the filter to find more long tail keywords with low difficulty and high search volume.

Now you can try to find long tail keywords with low competition using this feature.

Put a 4 or 5 for Number of Words in the first box.

Leave the Negative Words box empty. Or if you want to filter for “free” word, type in free.

For Volume, you can set 100 to 1000. I set the Score from 0 to 55.

how to use keysearch filter

Using the filter, you can narrow down your long tail keyword list and choose the best one to write a blog post about it.

Let’s take a look at the box under Search Trends.

On the left side, you can see the SERP Analysis, Rankings/Traffic, Social. Just play around with the tab. You can see the Page Authority (PA) and Domain Authority (DA) for each post.

When you scroll down the left part displays Keywords Suggestions by Search Engine.

The top 10 results of your targeted keywords are displayed here in SERP Analysis. You can see the Page Authority and Domain Authority to check if the pages are authoritative or not.

Your chance of competing with them depends on the PA and DA. If they are above 80 or the color is red, it’s more difficult to compete. Green-colored PA indicates your better chance for competing in that keyword.

You might bump into pages with lower authority from high authority websites with high DA. Green PA numbers means you have a better chance to compete.

SERP Analysis

There are other metrics like Links, Title, DESC, URL. Links show you the number of links to the page. Others tell you if the targeted keyword or phrase appears in the page title, meta descriptions, and the URL.

Go to Explorer tab on the top bar. Enter your domain name and hit Search button.

Competitor Research keyword research tool

You will see your Domain Strength, Score To Target, Organic Keywords that you already rank for, and Top Competitors list for your niche. You can get more competitors list by clicking the View Competitors button and it will show you top 20 competitors of your blog.

This tool is also available in Ahrefs and you can find it in KeySearch. You can get to know more keywords from your competitor that already ranks no 1 that you haven’t ranked for.

Put in the competitor domain in the left column and then you can put in your domain at the right column and hit Search.

Competitor Gap Research

The great thing about Keysearch is that they continually add new features to their product. This Opportunity Finder is a new one.

Here you can find websites that accept guest posts to help you get backlinks, traffic, and exposure. You can also find forums that talk about your keywords, and blogs to help find the influencers in your niche.

Opportuinty Finder

If you want to build a Youtube Channel, you will need this tool. It helps you find the right keywords to target and the competition for the targeted keyword.

It will show the URLs of the videos with important data like Video Age, Views, Likes, Dislikes, Comments, and you get to see the keyword is in title and description or not.

Youtube Research keyword research tool

But one downside is that you cannot see the title of the video. You need to search it manually on Google to check the title of each video.

Youtube Research displays keyword suggestion box that you can consider to target. You can also check the difficulty to rank under Score.

Same thing with the Quick Difficulty Checker, you can also check your targeted keywords difficulty in this section.

This tool is a time-saving tool when you want to check the difficulty of your keyword list. You can check up to 50 keywords at once. You can choose the location, too.

Quick Difficulty Checker

You can download the result to a CSV file and make a blog post schedule.

You will get all the important metrics about the keyword without leaving the search page.

I find this tool very helpful in tracking the targeted keywords in my blog. I am new to blogging so I need to know if my SEO efforts are working or not.

After your write a post for a targeted keyword and you try building links, you want to know which SEO strategy works and which doesn’t work for your blog. This tool is what it is for.

Rank Tracking

You can even set up email notifications so you can receive notifications if there is a change in your ranking for a certain keyword.

You can add a few blogs and a few keywords for each blog, it shows you previous ranking positions since the day you added the keywords.

Try it, the first time I tried it, I need some time to get used to it. It is actually pretty easy to use, even for a new blogger like me.

Of course, with powerful features comes a high price tag. But not always. I think you’ll be surprised at how affordable Keysearch is, even for beginner SEOs and content marketers.

How much does Keysearch cost?

There are 3 Keysearch pricing plans. The Starter Plan, which is excellent value at $17 per month, gets you 200 searches a day. I’ve never gone over 200 searches in a day and I doubt I ever will. You also get 80 keywords to track with the Rank Tracker The Annual Starter Plan saves you almost $40 over a year.

You have 80 keywords in the Rank Tracker and you’ve got full access to all reports.

The Pro Plan offers the same tools but a much higher search limit and rank tracking limits. You get 500 daily searches and 200 keywords in the ranking tracker. The Pro Plan costs $34 per month and the Annual Pro Plan saves you well over $100 a year.

Considering the fact that many “pure” rank tracking software tools charge more than this to track 200 keywords without the keyword research tool, this price is a bargain.

Keysearch Starter Plan costs $169 for one year and the Pro Plan costs $279 for same.

There’s also a Free Trial, which gives you a month to try out the software. You’ll get 5 searches a day and most of the tools are available. The Rank Tracking and Competitive Analysis tools are not available on the free trial.

I think as a new blogger, Keysearch is perfect as an alternative for Ahrefs.

It may not be as fast as Ahrefs and does not come as many features as Ahrefs. But, really, it’s not that bad. You should start somewhere, right? And, KeySearch is a good option to help you achieve great result or your blog.

As a beginner, you will do keyword research one or two times in 3 months, build your keyword list and write great content for your blog. Once the list is finished, you can start doing research again.

So, I think it will be a waste of money to spend on Ahrefs in the beginning. You won’t use it that often. And as a beginner, I don’t think you can use all features in Ahrefs. I can’t.

Moreover, KeySearch keeps adding new features, for example, the Opportunity Finder. It’s a new feature when I signed up.

If you are a new blogger and need a keyword research tool that is within your budget, try KeySearch! You will not regret it.

KeySearch helps you analyze keywords, difficulty, competitors in your niche, and you can start from there.

I will write more about Keysearch. I find Keysearch very helpful for my keyword research in the beginning process. I will update more about other features on Keysearch.
