What is Wheatgrass?
Wheatgrass is different from wheat, and wheatgrass juice has many benefits to our health. Wheat is the seed, the grain that is grind and made into flour. The wheatgrass is the grass itself, it grows to a certain height, and we take the juice. There is no gluten in it. It has many health benefits that will surprise you.
Wheatgrass juice is the juice from freshly sprouted wheat plant, Triticum Aestivum. It can be grown easily at home on soil or sponge.

How to grow wheatgrass at home
You can grow wheatgrass yourself at home. It can be grown indoors and outdoors. It is very easy to prepare. You only need to be patient waiting for it to grow.
These are the things you need to prepare.
A tray for growing the wheat grass
Cocopeat or soil or other growing medium
- Put enough seeds for your growing tray in a bowl, fill it with water, leave it overnight.
- Drain the seeds well.
- Start putting the growing medium (cocopeat) into the tray. Spray with water to make it moist.
- Put the seeds on the growing medium, spread it evenly, do not let it be too widely apart each other. Just spread it evenly to make it grow abundant.
- Cover with kitchen paper, spray some water to make it moist. Put it inside avoiding sunlight for three days. Always spray with water every 2-3 hours as to not make it dry.
- After 3 days, you can take off the cover and you can see some of the white sprout coming out of the seeds. Keep spraying every 2-3 hours daily.
- Wait until 15 days or until it is tall enough around 15 cm to harvest.
- After harvesting, you can wash it first. And then use the wheatgrass extractor to squeeze the juice out. Do not put water in it.
A little note for growing wheatgrass
If you want to grow your own wheatgrass at home, you need to grow several trays 2-3 days apart so that you can harvest the grass and drink the juice daily.
How To Drink Wheatgrass Juice
You can drink the juice right after extracting it. If you can’t stand the taste of grass, you can add some lemon in it.
Please note that wheatgrass grown on a sponge is different from the ones grown on soil/cocopeat. The one from the soil extract more minerals.
The ones grown on soil will have more chlorophyll, phytonutrients, trace minerals, and vitamins.
